We’re making excellent progress with the restoration and conservation of the Lewis War Memorial project which is located in Stornoway. The benefits of lime mortar pointing stonework with lime mortar is endless and we’re very passionate about the product and subject matter. In recent decades buildings have suffered and decayed due to the use of cement-based mortars and pointing. At Architectural Conservation, we find we are continually rectifying this work by using the best material and methods to prepare and point stonework and the Lewis Memorial is a perfect example of this process. Our stone mason team have all attended specialist Lime Mortar Courses that means they’ve developed a real understanding of working with organic lime mortar pointing and the impact it has on allowing stone to breath and maintain structural integrity.
