Architectural Stone Conservation was founded on a deep respect for traditional building craft.
We work closely with conservation architects and private clients to ensure every intervention is appropriate, reversible where possible, and executed to the highest standard. Our team are all trained in specialist techniques, including DOFF stone cleaning, hot lime work, traditional leadwork.
From our base in Livingston, we work across Scotland's most significant historic properties — from listed Georgian townhouses to rural steadings.

Gavin McGrotty, owner of Architectural Stone Conservation, is a time-served stonemason backed by over two decades of industry experience. Since establishing the firm in 2014, he has earned a reputation for precise craftsmanship and a dedicated approach to client relations. His work centers on a commitment to traditional masonry standards. By utilising authentic materials like lime mortar, Gavin ensures that every restoration project respects the structural integrity and historical longevity of the building.
Beyond physical restoration, Gavin provides specialised consultancy through comprehensive building condition reports. These assessments offer a granular look at a property’s current state while outlining the specific maintenance or repair strategies needed. This thorough documentation ensures that every intervention is technically sound and serves as a prudent long-term investment for the property owner.

Gavin leads a group of fully qualified stonemasons who prioritise continuous professional development. The team regularly attends specialised training, ensuring their conservation skills and knowledge of lime-based materials remain at the forefront of the industry. This technical expertise is applied with meticulous attention to detail at the Architectural Stone Conservation stone yard, where they prepare materials for both on-site and off-site requirements.
